SYNCHROCYCLIA
BFA THESIS PROJECT

Coincidences— those elusive moments where events seem to align in an unexpected manner— have a tendency to spark intrigue despite their ultimate inconsequentiality. The gap between the true physical significance and perceived emotional impact of any given coincidence raises questions about randomization and perspective, carving a path for dialogue around intersections of chance and the emotional effects of uncanny experiences. From eerie feelings of premonition to the shock of unlikely repetitions, these bizarre instances can appear as stark reminders of our limited perceptions in interpreting the greater chaos of the universe. Synchrocyclia seeks to explore the emotive dimension of synchronicity, examining how individuals both perceive and shape random events as a personalized web of correlated experiences unified solely by a process of observation, interpretation, and feeling. Synchrocyclia begs the question— Are coincidences purely external occurrences linked by individual lived experiences, or are they an internal phenomenon, existing only when given attention? Are we observing what is around us, or inside of us?
